Baptize
02:51

In my naiveté I once did think that inside every heart
Lies an abundance of goodness and light
But that innocence was ripped away never to return again
When I woke up cold and bruised that fateful night
One brush with you left me believing every man's hiding a demon
Just waiting to devour all that's good
I am not ashamed to say if I could go back to the day
I could have killed you in your sleep, Lord knows I would
I would baptize you in the water
I would baptize you in the blood
I would baptize you in the name of every woman
ever haunted by your touch
Oh, I'll look over the Jordan, Lord, and there what will I see?
I'll see a band of angels, and they'll be applauding me
With my hands around your neck, you know I'll never break a sweat
And I testify, that's the gospel truth
When the bubbles all cease I will find my sweet release
And the chorus, Lord, they'll sing this victory tune
I will baptize you in the water
I will baptize you in the blood
I will baptize you in the name of every woman
ever haunted by your touch
In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost
In the name of every face ever blackened by your blows
In the name of my sisters, each and every one,
Oh, God have mercy on your soul
Because you know that I'll have none
You know that I'll have none
You know that I'll have none
I will baptize you in the water
I will baptize you in the blood
I will baptize you in the name of every woman
ever haunted by your touch

Ode To Gravity

Redheaded lady friend of mine was staring at the sky
The night was clear, the moon was shining mighty full and high
But that beam was not the only thing on that balcony in town
She took a spill and woke up in a hospital gown
Doc came in and patched her up and said, "You're free to go,
But if you know what's good for you, stay safe and you'll stay low."
She said, "Well doc, the life of caution ain't the life for me.
I'll hold on tight at greater heights, but there ain't no guarantee."
Falling down, falling down
It'll take much more than gravity to keep me on the ground
Later on that winter in the plains so bitter cold
A boy stood on a rooftop, he was shoveling the snow
He was brave, he was bold, but he was knocked right off his feet
Took a tumble, landed with his face right on the street
They took him by an ambulance hooked up to an I.V.
He said, "Lesson learned, I'm gonna turn this life around, you'll see."
Falling down, falling down
It'll take much more than gravity to keep me on the ground
Pops went to the Ozarks, to his cabin by the lake
Never thinking once his trip would lead him to a gory fate
He was climbing on a ladder but the seventh rung was bent
Let out a yell, the ladder fell, and with it Daddy went
Turns out his neck was broken; it broke hard but it broke clean
Doc came in and said it was the worst he'd ever seen
Times were grave, Momma prayed, and things were looking bleak
But my old man woke from surgery and he walked out the next week
Falling down, falling down
It'll take much more than gravity to keep me on the ground
Falling down, falling down
It'll take much more than gravity to put me under ground

I believe people are cruel, narcissistic, selfish wastes of space
Concerned only with what they can consume, what they can take
But I must admit, something in your face
Makes me think there could be hope for the human race
So when the world falls to hell
As it inevitably will
You're the one that I want by my side
War and human greed will be the death of this planet, you'll see
That's if we're not first all ravaged by communicable disease
Oh, I hate to be the bearer of bad news
But darlin' we're all doomed
So when the world falls to hell
As it inevitably will
You're the one that I want by my side
So when the heavens all split and the earth turns to shit
You're the one that I want by my side
When the ground opens up and humanity is fucked
You're the one that I want by my side
So when the world falls to hell
As it inevitably will
You're the one that I want by my side
